Trigger warnings: Religion. Dragon-slaying. Dangerous bodies of water.

July: An anthropologist called EsoterX, in their blog of research about monsters in mythology and folklore, posted a new research article about dragon-slaying in medieval France. EsoterX argues that the "dragons" in these myths were, in reality, dangerous bodies of water, such as floods and whirlpools. In allegory, the saints "slew" these "dragons" by building levees. Later, the allegory was lost, and the myths were taken literally.

This article is not about otherkin. However, it could be of interest to otherkin who identify as dragons, or for whom dragons figure significantly in their spirituality or personal mythology.

something, i always thought was interesting to note, was (i forget the exact source), but a scientist, or archeologist or something of the sort was explaining how if dragons existed in the way's we think of them today: with flight, breathing fire etc, then their inner fire would have burned up their hollow bones, leaving no remains after their death. for them to fly AND be as large as we imagine them to be, then their bones would need to be hollow, and therefor more brittle and less likely to survive the elements and fossilize.

Good to see the Otherkin are about, as I have a special fondness for them, and have even written a little bit on them before. See http://esoterx.tumblr.com/post/38275007097/postcards-from-another-kind-of-edge-meanderings

And yet despite your ability to read for context, you missed the point and see Otherkin identity as a religious behavior. The confusion between spirituality and religion does no good in this world.

Wasn't insisting they were "religious" per se, only pointing out the irrationality of religious folks scoffing at them. You may want to separate religion and spirituality. Not everyone chooses to do so.
